COVID-19 pandemic has seemingly brought the world to agree that no one is safe until everyone is safe.
Though the exact number cannot be calculated but about five million people have lost their lives to this virus so far.
In an ideal situation, this tragedy was more than enough for the world to unite for protection of humanity.
Unfortunately, it did not happen and human sufferings are being taken as a tool by some countries to strike their opponents.
The Indian media started linking corona virus with China since the start and continues doing so.
It has not been deterred by the fact that the world has named Indian variant of corona virus as Delta variant so that a nation is not stigmatized because of the disease.
Similarly, the US media has been circulating a footage allegedly from a hospital in China in which a baby is taken to isolation ward after being infected by the virus.
A spin is being given to the story that zero tolerance policy of China against the virus is somehow inappropriate.
Using this zero-tolerance policy, China had become the first country to defeat the pandemic.
Awareness campaign against the disease was launched there 24/7 because the country was hit the hardest and origin of the virus was also in its Wuhan province.
The people of China stood behind their government through this tough time, when even masks were not available for people.
China started trials of vaccines while other countries were still in the process of developing them.
The vaccines that it prepared it did not confine to itself. It delivered those vaccines to the world, especially developing and under-developed countries. Pakistan and Turkey are among the top ten recipients of Chinese vaccines.
Countries like the US under Trump used to mock Chinese actions and declared them against the principles of liberty of their population.
But with the change of government, sanity prevailed and Biden administration applied almost the same prevention measures on the US as China did.
After small protests, the American people understood and followed the guidelines.
The US is claimed to be the biggest donor of corona vaccine to the world but there is a difference between distribution patterns.
Chinese vaccines are mostly distributed among poor countries while the vaccines the U.S. companies made were mostly delivered to the rich countries, increasing vaccine inequality manifold.
The criticism on China’s zero tolerance policy for corona virus by the US media will fan corona-skepticism the world over, especially the rich European countries.
Germany and France have been having massive protests against the steps their governments took to protect their populations from the virus.
The US media arguments against China echo what the protestors in Europe chant. In the early days of the pandemic, the international media was equally abuzz with the stories of how hard it was for the American medics to keep the infected people in isolation.
All these stories always had a human angle. The thing is that the world needs to learn from China as to how to keep their populations protected against COVID-19 as no one is safe until everyone is safe.
