LAHORE - President Asif Ali Zardari will lay foundation stone of 500 KV Rahim Yar Khan Substation and Associated Transmission Line on Thursday (today). According to the Pepco officials, the project of 500 KV Rahim Yar Khan Substation and associated transmission lines are being completed with the funding of a Japanese Donor Agency JICA, with estimated cost of Rs 6 billion. These projects are expected to be completed by 2011-12. National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) under the umbrella of PEPCO hired renewed consultants from Pakistan (NESPAK) and International Advisor from Germany. Approved by Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in 2007, these projects will help meet the ever growing power demand of domestic, commercial and agricultural consumers in Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Khan Pur, Sadiqabad, Liaqat pur and other areas of MEPCO, being the major contributors of national economy through agriculture especially as the largest cotton growers of the country. Moreover these projects will avoid overloading /burning of transformers at Guddu and Bahawalpur grid station which plunges consumers into darkness. Transmission line losses will be reduced up to 35.7 MW and System reliability and voltage profile will also be improved in the area. Keeping in view, the importance of agricultural sector along with the pace of village and tubewell electrification will be increased to maximize agricultural production. It will also provide socio-economic uplift in the entire district of Rahim Yar khan as well as other adjacent areas of Bahawalpur, Khanpur, Sadiqabad and Liaqatpur. Above all, these projects will create employment opportunities through the establishment of industries in the area, which is the prime policy of the present government.
