LAHORE The 72nd death anniversary of Poet of the East Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal was observed on Wednesday with due reverence and solemnity. To mark the day, special programmes, seminars, debate competitions and Quran Khawani was held for Allama Iqbal at various places throughout the country wherein his services were highlighted. In City besides others, a special programme was held at Aiwan-e-Karkunan Tehreek-e-Pakistan under the aegis of Nazria Pakistan Trust (NPT) and Tehreek-e-Pakistan Workers Trust. The great philosopher, visionary and one of the most prominent leaders of the All India Muslim League, Allama Iqbal encouraged creation of a state in north-western India for Muslims in his 1930 presidential address at Allahbad. After studying in England and Germany, he started law practice, but concentrated primarily on writing scholarly works on politics, economics, history, philosophy and religion. He died on April 21, 1938 at the age of 60. Bang-e-Dara, Baal Jabreel, Zarb-e-Kaleem and Payam-e-Mashriq were his great books. Allama Iqbal was best known for his poetic works, including Asrar-e-Khudi which brought knighthood. Iqbal also wrote many essays and articles in English and Persian languages which were well appreciated. Iqbal was a strong proponent of the political and spiritual revival of Islamic civilisation across the world, specifically in South Asia. Iqbal's death anniversary at Aiwan Aiwan-e-Karkunan Tehrik-e-Pakistan, Nazria Pakistan Trust, Tehrik-e-Pakistan Workers Trust and other political and religious parties, social organisations, education institutions as well government and public departments Wednesday arranged functions in different cities of the province to mark the 72nd death anniversary of great poet and philosopher Dr Allama Iqbal. On the occasion leaders and workers of religious, political parties and other notable social figures paid glowing tribute to the national hero. On the occasion speakers delivered speeches about the personality and character of Dr Iqbal. In this regard Nazria Pakistan Trust also arranged a programme at Aiwan-e-Tehrik-e-Pakistan, which was presided over by Trust Chairman Majid Nizami and a number of workers of Tehrik-e-Pakistan, political leaders, teachers, students besides a large number of people belonging to different walks of life.
