LAHORE Former chairman National Reconstruction Bureau Daniyal Aziz has said that politics of inheritance has no future in the country. Addressing Local Government Convention organised by Local Councils Association of the Punjab here at a local hotel on Wednesday, he said the future politics would be based on local government system with devolution of powers at grass roots level. LCAP President and former Lodhran Tehsil Nazim Syed Asghar Husain Shah Gilani, Director Anwar Hussain, Salman Abid of SPO, Javed Hasan of the Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment (DTCE), Tanvir Iqbal of Pattan Development Organisation besides former nazims also spoke at the convention and proposed advocacy and lobbying for the local govt system in its present form by holding seminars and workshops simultaneously at district and tehsil level. They also called for creating awareness among the masses about the LG system. Urging the former nazims to maintain unity in their ranks, Daniyal Aziz asked them to start preparation for the next local government elections. Terming retaining Article 140 (A) as outcome of nazims struggle, he appreciated all the political parties, NGOs and stakeholders for reaching a consensus that the next elections would be held through Election Commission and not Election Authority. He said the present rulers wanted to do away with the system by taking back financial and administrative powers devolved at grass roots level. Dissolution of local governments and appointments of administrators by the Punjab and Sindh government was a step towards grabbing the funds and spend the same according to their will instead of utilising them on health facilities, schools and roads in localities of the poor.
