ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that development of Balochistan is directly linked to the progress and prosperity of the country. The strategic location of the province, he added, could serve as a hub for economic activities thus ensuring a better quality of life to the people. The Prime Minister was talking to a delegation from Balochistan led by Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani, which met him at the Prime Ministers Secretariat on Wednesday. Gilani assured the delegation that he would direct the NHA and other concerned organisations to give top priority to construction and repair of roads as well as infrastructure projects in Balochistan. As regards the ongoing development projects in Balochistan, the Prime Minister said that he had already directed the concerned ministries and organisations to streamline the funding to ensure early completion of the ongoing projects. He informed the delegation that very soon he would be chairing the PSDP meeting to finalise the schemes as well as the requisite funding so that the problems of common man could be resolved. He also assured that the jobs to the people of Balochistan in the federal government as committed would be provided to the deserving. While reciprocating the feelings expressed by the members of the delegation on the enactment of 18th Amendment, the Prime Minister informed the delegation that it was an unprecedented smooth transition of power from President to Parliament. The Prime Minister urged upon the delegation to focus on the capacity building of the provincial management to meet the responsibilities as a result of transition of power to the provinces after the enactment of 18th Amendment. The delegation apprised the Prime Minister on the progress of various development projects in the province. They specifically mentioned that the roads in the province urgently require repair as it is affecting the economic activities in different areas. The delegation requested for early release of funds for the ongoing development schemes. They also reminded about the announcement made for giving jobs to the deserving and educated youth in the federal govt. The other members of the delegation included Syed Ehsan Shah Minister for Industries, Mir M Asim Kurd, Minister for Finance, M Sadiq Umrani, Minister for C&W, Syed Matiullah Agha, Deputy Speaker, Eng. Zamrak Khan, Minister for Revenue, Zafar-ullah Zehri, Minister for Home, and Mir Hamal Kalmati, Minister for Fisheries.
