Mobilink torchbearers at Safina Children’s Home

ISLAMABAD (PR): Mobilink Foundation organised a fun filled activity for the residents of Safina Children’s Home, an orphanage established by Safina Welfare Services, Islamabad. 30 Mobilink Torchbearers spent the evening with the children orphaned as a result of the devastating earthquake which occurred in October 2005.

Mobilink Torchbearers hosted the activity for the 60 residents of Safina Children Home at Fatima Jinnah Park, where they took part in entertaining activities, games and sports. These included painting, tug-of-war, sack race,frisbee and football. The day was concluded with the Torchbearers distributing school bags among the children.

Omar Manzur, Head of Corporate Communication, Mobilink commenting on the activity said, “Mobilink values community service as one of the most important part of its CSR activities. Spending timewith these orphaned childrenis our way of showing them support. Mobilinkhas always looked to provide assistance to the deserving and marginalized social groups, and thus encourage our employees to actively take part in these initiatives.”

Mobilink Foundation is the only registered NGO of telecom sector and winner of the GSMA Mobile Award 2013 and Ethical Corporation Award 2014 for its SMS Based Literacy Program. The Foundation,in spirit of volunteer work has in the past launched CSR drives to help the victims of 2005 earthquake, 2005 and 2010 floods and 2013 Awaran Earthquake. In 2013, Mobilink Foundation became Pakistan’s first and only telecom CR function to be certified by Pakistan Center of Philanthropy (PCP).

Telenor appoints CFO

KARACHI (PR): Telenor Pakistan has announced the appointment of Espen Brettas Dahle as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Gabor Kocsis, who joined Telenor Pakistan as CFO in May 2013, has decided to pursue new opportunities outside Telenor Group. The changes are effective immediately.

Espen Brettas Dahle joins Telenor Pakistan from the role as a Director in Telenor Group where he manages projects within the area of mergers and acquisitions as well as financial services. Brettas Dahle has extensive experience from projects in Asia, including financial services and online classifieds.

He joined Telenor Group in 2011, coming from EDB Business Partner, a leading IT services provider majority owned by Telenor at the time, where he held prominent roles within M&A, treasury and financial reporting. He has also worked as a financial analyst at Omnicom Media Group. Brettas Dahle is currently a board member at Alliance Venture, a Norwegian capital venture firm investing in early stage companies. Espen Brettas Dahle earned a Master of Business and Economics from BI Norwegian Business School.

ICAP holds session  

LAHORE (PR): The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) organised a session on Industrial Training with CFOs and HR heads of industries at Lahore. This initiative was taken to update the industry about the introduction of industrial training for CA students.

In persuasion of the global trends, progression of our fraternity and demand from corporate world, for the first time the ICAP is considering opening up industrial training for its trainee students.

The option of industrial and commercial training will provide Trainee CA’s an opportunity to explore a formal mechanism to support development of technical and conceptual competencies. This opportunity will give corporate sector the advantage to train individuals with high level of integrity and technical skills, for a prescribed period of time and rotate them in various functions of organization, like finance, HR, marketing, audit, accounts etc.

Muhammad Maqbool, Vice President ICAP has said on the occasion that this novel option will augment the growth of the industry, accountancy profession and a county as a whole.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) is a professional accountancy body regulating Chartered Accountancy in Pakistan. With significant growth in the profession, ICAP has produced around 7,000 members up till now.

PepsiCo ‘lighting up lives’

LAHORE (PR): PepsiCo Pakistan has joined hands with Liter of Light Pakistan (ACE Welfare Foundation) to start “Lighting Up Lives”; a movement to provide lighting solutions to the communities in need. The project will enable installation of safe, environment-friendly and sustainable Pepsi bottled solar lights in remote areas of the country.

A special launch ceremony was held here where stars from all walks of life came together and praised PepsiCo’s initiative of Lighting Up lives.

Prominent celebrities such as Zia Mohiuddin, Shahzad Roy, Sania Saeed, Musarat Misbah along with officials from different NGOs attended the ceremony.

September, 2014 saw collaboration between PepsiCo Pakistan and ACE Welfare Foundation; the official partner & representative of ‘Liter of Light’ global movement. PepsiCo Pakistan & Liter of Light partnership resulted in enlightening the lives of IDPs and refugees. PepsiCo Pakistan being the first to stand up and take an initiative to ‘lighten up’ and uplift the lives of the affected communities by installing safe, environment - friendly and sustainable solar lights.

In the first phase, 141 Pepsi bottled solar lights were installed at the Baka Khel refugee camp; whereas 175 solar light bulbs were installed at Jalozai refugee camp, benefiting large communities based there. The gift of light lit up their streets, hospitals, shelter homes as well as their faces. From lighting up faces for story time to walking safely on the pathway, from eating with the family in light to health & safety; community members were empowered to make the best out of the moments life offered them.

Founder of ‘Liter of Light’ global movement, Illac Diaz was also present at the launch ceremony and praised the support from PepsiCo Pakistan. He further added, “The global mission of Liter of Light is to provide sustainable and eco-friendly light to people who do not have access to electricity or are simply unable to afford it”.

Speaking on the occasion, Maliha Subhani, Director Marketing at PepsiCo stated, “Brand Pepsi is all about seizing the moment and making the best of it. If that moment passes by in darkness, we lose the best of ourselves. This initiative of installing safe, environment - friendly and sustainable solar lights will uplift the lives of around 100,000 Pakistanis. We wish to seek your partnership in taking this project forward by further helping us create awareness and identifying key locations for installation of lights that will benefit the affected ones the most”.

TDAP CE meets Gerald Duda of GIZ

KARACHI (PR): Chief Executive of TDAP held a meeting with Gerald Duda, Chief Technical Advisor GIZ. GIZ is working with the support of Government of Germany. The objective of organization is networking of 28 organizations of SAARC countries for enhancing trade and commerce in SAARC region.

In the meeting, the issues of mutual interest were discussed.

It was highlighted by Gerald Duda that there is 5% trade in SAARC countries whereas it is 28% in ASEAN countries. It was informed that GIZ supports through training and network meetings.

The Chief Executive informed the guest that TDAP is a government organization which is bridge between public and private sector. He said that TDAP is also working for enhancement of trade within region. In this connection, the Chief Executive cited the example of Aalishan Pakistan organized by TDAP in New Delhi.

Gerald Duda informed that the funding from German government is till 2016 and he suggested funding afterward from member organizations. In this regard, the Chief Technical Coordinator of GIZ will send subsequently the working paper for perusal of the Chief Executive. The meeting ended with the agreement that TDAP and GIZ will work together for enhancement of trade within region.
