LAHORE - The Lahore High Court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants of former MPA Yaqoob Nadeem Sethi of PML-N and nine others for not appearing in the court despite several orders.

Rana Shahzad had filed the appeal against the acquittal of former MPA and nine others accused of killing Rana Zia-ud-Din in 2003.

Mustafabad police of Kasur District had lodged FIR against former MPA Yaqoob Nadeem Sethi, Asjad Ali, Asghar Ali, Saqib, Shabbir, Rafiq, Afzal, Muhammad Hassan and Arshad for murdering Rana Zia-ud-Din in old enmity. However, a trial court had acquitted all the accused in the case.

The appellant on Tuesday argued that the decision of the trial court was not based on the facts. He pleaded the LHC to set aside the order of the trial court and punish the accused in accordance with the law.

After hearing the arguments, an LHC bench issued non-bailable warrants of the accused after they refused to comply with court orders.

“Everyone including legislators is equal before the law,” the bench observed.

REPLY SOUGHT FROM MPA: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notice to MPA Rana Tajamul of PML-N and additional commissioner of Revenue Department in a petition filed against illegal possession of 70 kanals land.

Syed Ahmad Shah Gillani had filed the petition and submitted that Rana Tajamul and an officer of the Revenue Department illegally occupied his land measuring 70 kanals. He told the judge that the court had also appointed a local commission to probe into the alleged occupation and later on the commission submitted its report.

Although he gained his land back, the respondents occupied the property again, he told the judge.

The petitioner pleaded the court to vacate the illegal possession.

After hearing the initial arguments, Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan of the LHC issued notices to Rana Tajamul Hussain and an additional commissioner of Revenue Department and sought reply within three weeks.
