KARACHI - The lawyers' fraternity on Thursday continued their protest by staging weekly boycott of the legal proceedings for the restoration of the deposed judges. They said that after the resignation of Musharraf, there was no hurdle in the reinstatement of deposed judges. The lawyers in City Court and Malir District Court observed complete boycott of the courts on the call of Supreme Court Bar Association. The lawyers took out joint rally from City Court Karachi to Karachi Press Club; the representatives of various political parties and members of civil society also accompanied them. The participants chanted slogans for their demands. Earlier, a general body meeting of Sindh High Court Bar Association and Karachi Bar Association was held at Shuhda-i-Punjab Hall of the City Court. Addressing the meeting, President of HC Bar Association, Advocate Rasheed A Rizvi said that the minus-one formula would be unacceptable to the legal fraternity; as they have launched the movement for the reinstatement of the deposed judges not some particulars. He also said that if the lawyers could stand against the military dictators, they could also continue such strand against the successors of the dictators. He urged the government that legal action must be taken not only against the former President General (R) Musharraf in accordance with article 6, but also against the judges who had taken oath under PCO. He also demonstrated that the lawyers' would continue their movement till the reinstatement of deposed judges including CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. He also vowed to carry on their struggle till the restoration of judiciary, saying that if the ruling parties do not fulfill their promise, they will launch civil disobedient movement against the government. The President of SHCBA has also expressed his doubts on the intention of present government. Karachi Bar Association President Mehmood-ul-Hassan announced that if the government did not restore the deposed judges with in twenty-four hours, they would gear-up their movement once again and call for shutter down strike. The lawyers and political workers gathered outside the Press Club and staged protest demonstration, in which, Sunni Tehreeq leader Shahid Ghori, Pasban leader Shafiullah Ismail, and others assured their full supports to the lawyers.
