FAISALABAD - Faisalabad Dry Port Trust Chairman Sheikh Ashfaq Ahmed has said that the Pakistan Railways should improve its cargo service to boost the income of PR and suggested that the Railway authorities should immediately introduce the express cargo trains. In a statement issued here Thursday, he said that after operation of the non-stop cargo trains, the export cargo of the up-country dry ports destined for Karachi ports will surely reach there in time and the chances for missing of the scheduled vessel will become very bleak and the exporters would not face the colossal financial losses due to cargo shipment to various foreign countries by Air. He said that the Railway authorities are already extending full cooperation to Faisalabad Dry Port by providing sufficient number of cargo trains for the transportation of export cargo to Karachi and it seems that perhaps the Pakistan Railways and the FDPT have entered into a " Public-Private Partnership".  He, especially appreciated the PR GM Nasir Zaidi, AGM Mehmood Rashid and Chief Traffic Manager, Altaf Mehmood, for focusing full attention to our request and demand for supply to cargo trains. Chairman FDPT told that the trend of Faisalabad exporters is growing to send their export cargo through cargo trains which can be adjudged from the fact that during the last two months (June & July 2008) as much as 760 export cargo containers were sent by Faisalabad Dry Port to Karachi through Cargo Trains whereas their number stood at 43 Containers only during the preceding two months of April and May 2008. He urged the local exporters to send their maximum possible export cargo by train through Faisalabad Dry Port where an " Expeditious Custom Clearance Unit" is functioning round the clock and clear the export cargo within one hour which is despatched to Karachi Ports through Cargo Trains and Road transportation trailers registered with FDPT. He assured to provide maximum possible facilities to the local Exporters saying that the Faisalabad Dry Port was incepted to provide custom clearance facilities to the exporters at their doorstep and not for earning the money.
