QUETTA - A French tourist Anthenio Sarsaperla who was kidnapped three months ago from Chagai district of Balochistan has been released on Friday and handed over to the authorities, official sources said. Sources confirmed safe release of French tourist and added he was brought to Quetta and later he was flown to Islamabad where he would be handed over to French embassy. The sources said that kidnappers had detained him in Balochistan, however sources did not disclose how his release was secured. They added that kidnapper did not belong to separatists who had started a low level insurgency in Balochistan. According to some other sources, release of French tourist was secured after constant contact of officials of French embassy with kidnappers. They claimed that French authorities and officials of embassy made several visits to Dalbandin area of Chagai district where they contacted the kidnappers. The sources said that after a long dialogue between kidnappers and French officials, safe release of Anthenio Sarsaperla became possible. Official sources did not confirm these reports. Armed men had kidnapped Anthenio Sarsaperla from Landi area of Chagai district, about 350km away from provincial capital on May 23 when he was going to Iran along with five other French nationals, including a woman and two children. No group had claimed the responsibility for the abduction of French tourist.
