LAHORE - Multan-born striker Arif Mehmood slammed his second hat-trick of the Pakistan Premier Football League as Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) imposed 3-2 win over Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in a fabulous clash at Railway Stadium, Garhi Shahue, Lahore. Meanwhile, Tandlianwala-born international striker Muhammad Asif snatched injury time winner as National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) earned their first win of the competition by beating Lahore's Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) at make-shift venue of Punjab Stadium. The match was to be held at Model Town Football Academy Ground but overnight rain and morning heavy downpour forced Match Commissioner to ask both the teams to turn up on Punjab Stadium pitch. NBP had played the match under coaching of keeper Zahid Taj as Nasir Ismail was not allowed to sit on team benc. NBP were the better outfit right from the words go and they hit the steel work twice. Former NBP skipper Muhammad Ashraf hit the right post in the 42nd minute with glancing header while midfielder Muhammad Owais saw his 71st minute drive ricocheted off cross-bar. The lone goal of the match was created by substitute winger Muhammad Ismail in the first minute of injury time. His forceful angular drive went up into the air via keeper Saqib Hanif's punch. It landed back, kissed the cross bar and rebounded into play where Asif was waiting for his chance to steer the ball over the line through crowded six-yard box. It was Asif's third goal of the event.Top scorer of PPFL in 2004, 2006 and 2007, Arif Mehmood is well on the way for another landmark as he raised his tally to 11 with three against PIA on Friday. He opened the scoring in the 7th minute from penalty-mark and gave more frustration to keeper Bilal Rafiq with another goal seven minutes later. But PIA staged remarkable recovery to reduce the arrears with free-flowing soccer. Spearhead Shakir Lashari made it 1-2 in the 31st minute with his first goal of the show.
