QUETTA - The leader of Tehrik-e-Jaffaria Allama Maqsood Ali Domki survived an assassination attempt here on Friday, while an attacker was killed by firing of his guard. According to police sources, the incident occurred on Mecongi Road near Ibrahim Street when Allama Maqsood Domki was passing from the area after attending a demonstration against incidents of target killing. Assailant opened fire, however, on timely return of firing by Allamas guard assailant was killed on the spot while a passer-by sustained injuries. Sources said that two mobile phones, a hand grenade and gun were recovered from his possession. On being informed, senior police officers reached the scene and started a probe into the attack. The body of the deceased assailant was shifted to the morgue of the civil hospital for autopsy. Meanwhile, addressing a hurriedly-called Press conference, Allama Maqsood Domki termed the incident failure of provincial government and demanded its immediate resignation. He said that members of Shia community were being targeted but so far no culprit had been arrested. He said that they had been raised voice against the incidents of target killing but government did not take serious steps for the security of the people. Before this incident I was receiving constant threats and I had also informed government about threats but neither it traced the phone nor any progress was made about arrest of culprits, he added. Allama said that Chief Minister had claimed that he would resign if incidents of target killing were not stopped but the incidents of target killing were occurring every day. He said that government should accept its failure and should tender resignation.
