KARACHI - Six unidentified dacoits on Friday looted Rs9.8 million from the branch of Al-Meezan bank at Seelani Chowk in the limits of Bahdurabad police station. The bank is located near Rangoonwala Hall at Seelani Chowk, where six unidentified robbers barged into the bank at 9:20am and snatched repeater guns and TT pistols from the two guards deployed inside the bank, said DSP New Town Abdul Majeed Rind. Gulshan Town SP Arib Maher quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the six robbers heaving automatic weapons held hostage two security guards and the staffers. The bank administration said that the looted amount was approximately Rs9.7m. The bandits also took away the closed-circuit cameras installed at the bank in which their images were captured, though the investigators were busy making their sketches with the help of the bank staffers. We, with the help of bank staffers, are making their sketches, the SP said. However, the officer explained that the culprits did not snatch mobile phones and other valuables from the employees and customers present in the bank. We are considering every aspect to probe this bank robbery and the matter will be resolved soon, he said. The robbers were in Shalwar Kameez and had Sindhi-speaking outlook. According to initial investigation, the gang of robbers arrived at the bank in a silver Coure car but its registration number could not be noted down while the police suspected that one more car or motorbike would be used in the robbery. It is worth mentioning here that the bank is situated at the busiest area of the City where already four banks including the said looted bank are located and police constables usually deputed there. The police have registered the FIR No 141/09 under Section 395 against unknown persons on behalf of Bank Manager M Usman.
