Rawalpindi - Model Ayyan Ali could not be indicted in money smuggling case yesterday as the charge sheet against her was incomplete.
The customs, anti-smuggling & taxation court adjourned the hearing till September 4 and ordered customs investigators to arrest the two other accused and present a complete charge sheet before the court so that charges could be framed against them. The prime accused Ayyan Ali appeared before the court along with her counsel Khurram Latif Advocate. The prosecutor requested the court to frame charges against the accused.
However, Khosa opposed the prosecutor, saying the customs investigators have failed to present complete charge sheet before the court. Moreover, the investigators have not yet arrested two other accused; therefore, his client could not be indicted, Khosa argued.
The customs investigators told the court that raids are being conducted at different places to apprehend the two fleeing accused Mumtaz and Awais, who have also been declared as proclaimed offenders by the court. They prayed to the court that Ayyan should be indicted in the case.
The court snubbed the investigators and directed them to arrest the accused and present complete challan of the case so that the accused could be indicted.
Separately, the court also postponed till September 4 the hearing of the plea filed by Pakistan customs to lodge fresh case against Ayyan.
Earlier, Ayyan reached the court amid tight security. A large number of people, lawyers and other litigants were present in the court premises to have a glimpse of the model.
