LAHORE - Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmoodur Rasheed Friday demanded the Election Commission host a multi-party conference for deciding schedule for the local bodies’ polls.

Addressing a press conference at Opposition Chambers, Mehmood alleged the Election Commission was providing an opportunity to the ruling party to rig the local bodies polls’ by holding phase-wise elections. The local elections should be held on a single day as phase-wise polls would benefit the PML-N.

He also threatened to move court if, according to him, the ruling party’s candidate continue using government funds. Mehmood demanded summoning Punjab Assembly session to discuss the local bodies’ polls and law and order matters. The resolution submitted by the PTI to pay tribute to Shaheed Punjab home minister should be passed in the session and Chief Minister must attend the sitting.
