‘Some Pemra clauses against freedom of speech’

LAHORE - PAT central spokesperson Noor Ullah Saddique has said that some clauses of the code of conduct for the electronic media issued by Pemra are against the spirit of freedom of speech as guaranteed by the Constitution.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the PAT information secretary said that this Pemra code of conduct is a move by the government to stop the criticism against it which is aired by different quarters and by people from all walks of life.
He said the government is already finding it very hard to digest the freedom of speech which the media enjoys today and wants to gag it by this code of conduct.
The PAT information secretary said that this code of conduct had been issued without the consultations and review suggestions of the stake holders and will not prove to be beneficial for both the stake holders and the government in the long run.
