ISLAMABAD (APP) - Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah Monday said the appointment of new Governor and Cabinet of the area to run the govt affairs would be announced within next ten days. We commend President Asif Ali Zardaris announcement that the new Governor of the area would be a local person who could deliver for prosperity and betterment of the people, he said while talking to mediamen during his visit to the Peoples Secretariat, Islamabad. Incharge, PPPs election campaign in GB, Ch Manzoor Ahmed, Dr Ali Madad Sher and Jaffarullah were also present. Answering a question, Syed Mehdi Shah hinted that being an ally the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (F) is expected to be given place in GB cabinet and added six ministers and two advisors of the new cabinet would take oath soon. He said people of GB have given a mandate to PPP in the recent elections and vowed to utilise all energies to come up to the expectations of the masses. The CM thanked party leadership for reposing confidence in him, which clearly manifests that PPP workers are given their due rights. He said Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave an idea to make Gilgit-Baltistan a province and in 2009, the present government of PPP materialised his vision after giving autonomy through Self-Governance and Empowerment Order 2009. Replying to another question about the situation after verdict on NRO, he said the four provincial assemblies and Senate had elected the President, who faced hardships in jail for 12 years and would continue serving the people while living in the country. We believe people are the only source of power who have given a mandate to PPP through ballot box and it would be the people who would decide our fate, he said. To another question, he said the mandate given to PPP in GB election is in fact a demonstration of confidence people have in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari. Talking about priorities of the government in GB, he said ensuring peace would be the focus and at the same time new projects in mining and energy sectors would be launched to provide employment for the unemployed. He said the improvement of airports at Gligit and Skardu would also help ensure development and enhance trade activities in the area and added the GB government would also adopt austerity measures so as to improve lot of the people. Ch Manzoor said the implementation of package announced by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani for the GB would be a challenge for the new government there.
