Parcels sent to embassies can't be checked: US

ISLAMABAD (Online) US embassy spokesman Richard Snelsire has said parcels of any embassy including US can not be checked nor can any custom duty be clamped thereon. He said this in an exclusive talk with Online here Monday. He told 10 parcels were brought from Bangkok to Lahore Airport but non-allowing the search of these boxes was made an issue. Under Vienna Convention every country has right that neither any tax is imposed, nor search could be conducted of any parcel. This is not meant for US only but whatever parcels Pakistan embassy in Washington receives are neither subjected to any search nor any tax is levied by US on them. All the diplomats and embassies have been granted diplomatic amenity, therefore, it was not necessary to search 10 parcels, which were brought at Lahore airport under this diplomatic amenity, he observed.
