Rs18b revitalisation package for trade, industry in NWFP

PESHAWAR (APP) - The government of NWFP in collaboration with federal government is going to announce a package of Rs.18 billion for the revival and revitalization of trade and industry in the militancy affected province. The package would be formally unveiled by the Finance Minister, Shaukat Tarin. Talking to Additional Secretaries, Industries, NWFP Asmatullah Khan Gandapur said that the package has been prepared are consultation with all stakeholders. Under the package the fund would be spent on revival of SME, skill development, mines & mineral sectors and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure due militancy in the province. The matter of the revitalization of trade and industry in NWFP was raised with Finance Minister, Shaukat Tarin during meetings of the National Finance Commission (NFC) by the Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti while several rounds in this regard were also held in Islamabad. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)/ Provincial Relief, Rehabilitation & Settlement Authority (PaRRSA) has called for a fund of Rs.86 billion for the initiating of the process of rehabilitation and reconstruction in Malakand Division on the basis of Damages Need Assessment. All lines departments have been directed to report their feed back to the PDMA. The schemes relating to reconstruction and rehabilitation would be completed carried under the supervision of PaRRSA. In this connection, a steering committee constituted in this regard had already held a meeting had approved various schemes in health, education, communication, governance and livestock sector. These schemes would be completed Damages Need Assessment bases. The Additional Secretary Industries, NWFP added that decision has also been made for the establishment of an Rs.2.8 billion revolving fund for the revival of the private sector business in Malakand Division. The scheme would be completed in consultation with all stakeholders. All matters relating to the affects of the war on terror and revival of the trade and industry in the province have been taken up with federal government. A delegation of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) had also held a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari and had brought the problems of the business community in his notice. Majority of the matters relating to relief of the business community are federal subjects. The purpose and objectives behind the schemes are the provision of the opportunities of employment and prepared with futuristic approach. We are looking for provision of opportunities for the promotion of trade and industry. He said that the schemes for establishment of an industrial estate and marble quarries for the development of marble sector are being initiated. The provincial government, he said is going for initiating some projects of technical education to promote skill amongst the unemployed youth while for the facilitation of industrial sector a machinery pool would also be established in Swat. Schemes for the revival of silk and agro-based sectors are also under consideration. All projects of the revival and revitalization of trade and industry exhibit futuristic vision of the government and aimed at betterment of the future of the province, concluded the official of the department of industry.
