LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said importance of Sasti Roti to workers, labourers and the poor in the present era of price-hike cannot be denied, and mechanical tandoors are being set up for this purpose while Dastarkhawan programme is also in progress. Only poor have the right over Sasti Roti, and tandoors will be set up in katchi abadies, industrial areas, labour colonies, railway stations, bus stands and hospitals and the target of installation of 300 tandoors should be achieved by March, he said, while presiding over a high level meeting regarding mechanical Tandoors and Dastarkhawan programmes here on Tuesday. Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Food Minister Ch Abdul Ghafoor, MNA Hanif Abbasi, Ayaz Amir and Mian Marghoob Ahmed, MPA Hafiz Mian Nauman, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Ch Abdul Razzaq Dhillon, Shehryar Riaz and Haji Muhammad Zulfiqar, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Finance, Food, Industries, Commissioner and DCO Lahore were present. He observed that provision of Sasti Roti to the poor from tandoors and supply of food from Dastarkhawans at a reasonable rate was a public welfare programme, and not only elite, the common man also had the right over national resources and tandoors and Dastarkhawan programme was a part of the effort to provide Sasti Roti and food at reasonable rate to the poor in this era of spiralling prices. 97 tandoors and about 400 Dastarkhawans are operating, and number of tandoors should be increased to 300 by March and these tandoors should be set up only in those areas where the poor and labourers could draw the benefit, he said, while directing Chairman P&D Board and Secretary Finance to ensure annual audit of tandoors, and services of prominent audit company Ferguson should be acquired for this purpose. He further directed that a consolidated programme for the supply of Roti for Rs 2 and food from Dastarkhawan at reasonable rate should be evolved and Hanif Abbasi and Haji Muhammad Nawaz should visit all divisional headquarters for this purpose and evolve a comprehensive plan for the installation of tandoors and setting up of Dastarkhawans at suitable sites. All Divisional Commissioners and DCOs should extend all out assistance for this programme of public service, he said.
