ISLAMABAD - The call of Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) to observe Black Day on Tuesday against the recent University Model Act approved by the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa got poor response in the Capital as very few universities observed the day. In most of the universities exams are going on due to which the teaching faculty preferred not to disturb the schedule. The Academic Staff Associations of Allama Iqbal Open University and National University of Modern Languages in their meetings condemned the Model University Act/Ordinance imposed on the public sector universities of Pakistan. Prof Zahid Majeed called a meeting to condemn and protest against the KP Governments action. The President, ASA, AIOU and Vice President, FAPUASA said all universities are united against the amendments made in the 1974 University Act and the association will not accept any change regarding the representations of academicians in the senates and syndicates. The General Secretary, ASA, AIOU said, We stand with KP universities on the amendments in Universities Act. He further said that if the KP Government didnt withdraw the amendments the universities would respond strictly. The ASA, AIOU members passed a resolution against the amendments made in the 1974 Universities Act. Black banners were displayed at AIOU against the amendments.
