The death of a suspect in police lockup in Karachi is yet another stark reminder of the horrible trend of such extra-judicial killings. The victim was a 24-year old man, who had been picked up by the police and later was found to be hanging from the bathroom ceiling in the lockup. Human rights groups and other public welfare organizations have taken up this issue on numerous occasions, but it seems that we are still a long way from eradicating this menace. The government will have to initiate proper steps and implement proper checks and balances in the legal system to curb such incidents from happening again. Yahya Ahmad,Islamabad
