Announcing the verdict on Women Protection Bill (WPB), the Federal Shariat Court (FSC) on Wednesday declared sections 11, 25 and 28 of the Hudood Ordinance null and void. According to a private television channel, the Women Protection Bill was introduced to amend the Hudood Ordinance. Later, the disputed articles of the Women Protection Bill were challenged before the Shariat court in 2006. The three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice FSC, heard the petition for almost six months. In the petition against the said bill, it was maintained that the sections 11, 25 and 28 of the Hudood Ordinance were against the teachings of Islam. The Federal Shariat Court, in its decision, has declared that the articles regarding rape were against the Islamic laws and, therefore, stood null and void. The court also declared the act of wishful adultery as against the spirit and teachings of Islam.
