GCU shines at CMs speech contest

LAHORE Debating Society of Government College University (GCU) has set an unprecedented record of wining overall 17 positions at the Chief Minister Punjab Speech Contest 2010. The final rounds, held on Tuesday at the Govt Science College, Wahdat Road and Government Postgraduate College for Women, Wahdat Road, GCU speakers won three distinctions. In the Postgraduate English category, Muhammad Umer Jee Saleemi stood first and Ali Zafar secured the second position among the winners of the Division level, who represented the best universities of Punjab. In the Intermediate English category, Ahmed Chaudhry was declared the best speaker at the district, division and province levels. Earlier, in the district and division level rounds, GCU bagged a total of 14 positions in various categories. Overall, GCU speakers won 17 positions and a total of Rs 0.5 million cash prize this year. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Aftab congratulated the Debating Society for having performed exceptionally well at the Chief Ministers Speech Contest for the last three years consecutively.
