Punjab Minister for Prisons Ch Abdul Waheed Arrain declared on Saturday that a foreign hand was involved in recent sectarian terrorism in the country.

Addressing a meeting held to review security arrangements for the upcoming Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), he added that same kind of weapons were used in different sectarian terrorism incidents that indicated that any third power played this ugly game.

He said that Maulana Shamasur Rehman Moawia and Allama Nasir Abbas were killed by anti-Pakistan elements to create sectarian unrest and destabilise the country. He added that the security agencies were investigating into both the cases and the killers would be arrested soon. He urged upon the clerics to play their role in creating sectarian harmony in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal said that the law enforcing agencies and administration had evolved a foolproof security plan for the Chehlum. He revealed that the administration had gathered the data of encroachments in Multan and a mega operation would be launched against them after Chehlum. He directed the TMOs of all towns to ensure complete elimination of encroachments from the routes of Chehlum processions as well as from around the imambargahs.

Addressing the meeting, Multan CPO Sultan Chaudhry said that the investigation into Muharram 10 and 11 incidents was still underway and the findings would be made public at appropriate time.

He declared that the accused would be produced before court along with complete evidences. He added that the fourth schedule would be revised.
