LAHORE - M Shabbir Iqbal of Islamabad clinched the title of the Punjab Open Golf Championship which concluded here at the Defence Raya Golf Course on Sunday.

Shabbir, super hero of Pakistan's professional golf scene, pleased his fans and the management with superior shot making and amazing touch of control on the greens. His first (72), second (72) and third (72) days score’s total was 216.

The management of Defence Raya Golf Club has offered him free practice sessions at the course which is certainly a golf course of international rating. "I have fallen in love with this superb golf course and to get ready for international competitions I am going to practise here.”

Matloob Ahmed, Aashir Masih, Anser Mehmood and Aadil Jehangir also played well. The score of Matloob was 773+73+74=220, Aashir Masih 74+79+68=221, Ansar Mehmood 77+74+73=224, Aadil Jehangir 76+75+75=226, Waheed Baloch 79+76+72=227, Shahid Javed Khan 74+76+77=227, M Munir 78+73+76=227, Amjad Yousaf 77+75+75=227, and Imdad Hussain 78+76+73=227.

In amateurs, Ghazanfar Mehmood of Bahria Golf Club was first in gross while Wazir Ali Khan of Gymkhana was second and Tariq Mehmood of Islamabad was third. In ladies section, the top one was Ghazala Yasmin while Tehmina Ahmed won the second gross and Zaibun Nisa third. Ladies net winners were Ana James Gill (first), Dr Rubab Haider (second) and Mrs Sameea Javed Ali (third). The stars of the professional section were Imdad Hussain of Garrison and Ghulam Nabi of PIA. Former Governor Punjab Lt Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool awarded prizes to the top performers in a grand prize distribution ceremony.
