KARACHI - A suspected robber was beaten to death by an angry mob in Korangi area here on Monday, said police.
An enraged mob got hold of a 'burqa-clad' couple who were escaping after staging an alleged robbery attempt at a beauty parlour in Korangi number 4 area of the metropolis.
The man, later identified as Mohsin Raza, 25, was severely tortured by the mob before the police took him to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries, Korangi SHO told media.
The police officer said the man breathed his last at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) while his wife was rescued by the police. A pistol was recovered from the female suspect’s purse. Back in August, a suspected robber-cum-murderer Gul Badshah was killed in New Karachi in a similar way.
Police had said the suspected robber along with his accomplice had tried to deprive one Hafeez Haq of cash and valuables in sector 5-M of New Karachi. When Haq offered resistance, the duo opened fire, killing him on the spot. The incident infuriated the area people who caught one of the robbers and beat him to death while his accomplice fled, the police said.
A two-year-old boy was burnt to death when a fire broke out at his hut in North Karachi locality on Monday. Nearly five makeshifts were completely turned into ashes. The firefighters managed to save the remaining 20 other shanties.
The fire broke out at one of the huts located near Shah Muhammad Graveyard in North Karachi. Firefighters immediately reached the site. The makeshifts were immediately evacuated by the occupants, however, one of the children remained stuck in the hut and burnt to death. Fire brigade spokesperson said the firefighters were able to put the blazes down after the efforts of nearly half hour.
The fire brigade spokesperson said the actual cause of fire had yet to be ascertained. Apparently it fire broke out when the occupants of one of huts were making tea by burning the woods which engulfed other huts.
