11 dead as bus hits stationary trailer due to fog

KHANEWAL - Eleven passengers died while 28 others sustained injuries as a bus rammed into an out of order trailer left along the road amidst thick fog.

The fast moving bus (BYU/009) going to Raganpur from Lahore, on M4 near Rasheeda interchange collided with the trailer that was left there due to technical fault. As many as 11 passengers died on the spot and 21 seriously injured were shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan. The dead bodies were also shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan. Rescue teams from Khanewal and Multan participated in rescue operation.

The dead persons include a woman and the bus and trailer drivers. As per Rescue 1122 Khanewal and motorway police, the incident happened due to dense fog on the motorway. Over 40 passengers were traveling in the bus. It entered M-4 motorway from Shamkot interchange for Multan. The out of order trailer was left on the roadside and the bus driver misjudged due to thick fog and high speed and smashed into the trailer.

The deceased were identified as 35 years old Sudais of Rajanpur, 47 years old Malik Mureed Hussain of Rajanpur, 11 years old Hammad of Lahore, 25 years old Faheem of DG Khan and three unknown including one woman. However, 2 seriously injured persons expired in Nishtar Hospital Multan.

More than 20 passengers were seriously injured and hospitalized. They include Noraiz of Rajanpur, Jabbar of DG Khan, Sundas (Bus Hostess) of Multan, Ayesha of Rajanpur, Zulnorain, Shahid of Kot Mithan, Faiz of DG Khan, Muzamil of Lahore, Ammara, Farzana, Aalyan, Shahid, Abu Bakr, Mumtaz, Dilshad, Ashraf, Abu Bakr of Rajanpur, Faiz and Aalyan.  After the collision, motorway police and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured persons to Nishtar Hospital Multan.

Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif expressed condolence on the loss of 11 lives. He Also advised Higher Authority of Nishtar Hospital Multan to provide them with proper treatment.
