At least three persons were killed and 10 others injured when several vehicles piled up on Babu Sabu Motorway near Thokar Niaz Beg in Lahore due to dense fog on Wednesday morning.

Reportedly, the plain areas of Punjab were engulfed in thick fog which caused a fierce pile-up on the Babu Sabu Motorway.

Rescue officials informed that from five vehicles crashed with each other on Babu Sabu, three people were killed in the pile-up while 10 others sustained severe injuries.

According to the Motorway police, four vehicles were crashed due to dense fog on Babu Sabu. They said that the injured were shifted to the hospital with the help of FW and Rescue ambulances.

The police cordoned off the place of the accident and provided a diversion to the motorists.

In the morning, owing to the thick fog, the motorway police shut M3 from Faizabad to Jaranwala. The flow of traffic was affected on main national thoroughfares in plain areas of Punjab due to fog.

Apart from fog, smog still is proving a bane for Lahore as the provincial capital remains on number two position in the index of worst air quality cities of the world with its AQI level at 391.

However, Karachi comes on number 7 position in the most polluted cities of the world.

Smog has also enveloped Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Mirpur Khan.

The persisting condition of smog is causing widespread problems of breathing, sore throat and eye diseases among citizens.
