Shamim new PN Commander Logistics

KARACHI - Rear Admiral Azher Shamim has been appointed Commander Logistics of Pakistan Navy with immediate effect. According to a press release of the ISPR (Navy) issued here on Saturday, Shamim took over the charge from Rear Admiral Bakhtiar Mohsin in a change of command ceremony held at Pakistan Navy Missile Complex. In capacity of Commander Logistics, Rear Admiral Azher would be in-charge of all the PN construction/repair facilities, logistics units and depots. Rear Admiral Azher Shamim was commissioned in Pakistan Navy in 1974 in the Operations Branch and later joined Naval Aviation as a pilot. He attended the Naval Staff Course at the Naval War College, USA, in 1989 and the Armed Forces War Course at the National Defence University, Islamabad. The Admiral has commanded P-3C and Fokker Squadrons, a Destroyer PNS Zulfiqar, and Frigates and Auxiliary Ships Squadrons. He also held various staff appointments such as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Planning), Chief Staff Officer to Commander Karachi, Directing Staff at the National Defence University Islamabad, Director General Training and Joint Warfare at the Joint Staff Headquarters and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects). Before taking over as Commander Logistics, the Admiral was serving as Director General Maritime Security Agency. In recognition of his meritorious service, he has been awarded with Sitara-e-Basalat and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Military). On arrival at the venue, Rear Admiral Azher Shamim was presented guard of honour and introduced to the Commanding Officers of units under command. Later, the outgoing Commander Logistics formally handed over the command to the incoming Commander Logistics by presenting him traditional scroll. The ceremony was attended by senior naval officers, officers and CPOs/sailors of Pakistan Navy.
