KARACHI-A 23-year-old suspected suicide bomber was gunned down by security guards while trying to enter a bank forcibly for committing dacoity here in Sabzi Mandi area. The security was put on high alert in the City after the incident. A policeman also sustained critical injuries in the encounter while 5 kg explosives, a hand grenade and a pistol were also recovered from the bomber. Security has been further beefed up across the province especially in Karachi. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh has ordered extra vigilance and enhanced snap checking in the City especially at entry and exit routes. According to details, the incident occurred at 12am when a suspected suicide bomber wearing a shalwar kameez put a pistol on the head of a security guard deputed at the main gate of a private bank while trying to enter the premises. He warned the bank management and guards and took off this kameez to expose the 12 sticks of dynamite showing two belts on his belly and a hand-grenade in his hand. The man shot police constable Muhammad Aslam when he tried to catch him. Upon which the security guard and a policeman shot him dead. The SHO Nasir Mashwani said that the man repeatedly warned that he was a Taliban and will blow himself up if anybody comes close to him and let him loot the bank. Gadap Town SSP Rao Anwar said that the dynamite was connected with the mobile phone and the man tried to blow it up but could not manage as he was shot. Police officials believed that the terrorist belonged to Wazir tribe and was associated with a jihadi or Taliban organisation. The officials also believed that he was also a suspected suicide bomber. Special Investigation Unit (SIU) chief SSP Raja Omar Khattab said that he does not think so that he was a trained person. He said that according to initial investigation, it is confirmed that he wanted to rob the bank but the modus operandi, he used was new and never seen in the history during bank robbery. According to eyewitnesses, the militant arrived in the bank in a black and yellow color cab with another man. The man stood outside the bank who managed to flee alongwith the taxi after the incident. The taxi seemed to go at Afghan Camp area. However, Gadap Town SSP Rao Anwar told The Nation that the law-enforcers conducted raid and tried to arrest the person. There were some unconfirmed reports that the law-enforcers have arrested some suspected persons during separate raids in the City. The bomb disposal squad (BDS) reached the scene as well and inspected the site. SSP Anwar further said that the hand grenade was Russian made. He said that the dynamite weighted 4 to 5 kilograms containing ball barrings. SSP Khattab further said that it might be possible that some of militant's other accomplices fled from the scene after the encounter.
