COD would be implemented before March 23: PM

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday underlined that war against terrorism has badly affected our economy and we are determined to implement Charter of Democracy (COD) in the country. Addressing to a joint press conference after meeting with PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif here on Monday, Prime Minister said that more than fifty meetings have been held between PPP and PML-N and implementation of COD before March 23 would be good news for the nation. We would follow the constitution of the country over Swiss cases, he said. Implementation of COD would pave the way for stable democratic system and balance would be established between President and Prime minister, he added. He said that we discussed our responsibilities to benefit common man and think tanks of both parties would constitute a strategy to provide relief to common man. Answering to a question, Prime Minister said that we would follow court decision in Swiss case and also respect judicial decisions, supremacy of law and constitution of the country. Talking about war against terrorism in the country, Prime Minister said that besides, loss of precious human lives our economy is badly affected. All the political parties should work together and should follow their manifestos to provide relief to common man. He said that government has no concern with the Sharif cases and burning of effigy is not a good tradition. Talking about Dr Aafia case, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that we are supporting Dr Aafia at every forum and negotiations with US government are continued for his release. War against terrorism is our own war and it is not a proxy war and no drone attack would be done on Punjab and Quetta, he maintained. He said drone attack in tribal areas unites the tribal people and terrorists, which is not good for us therefore, we demanded from US government to provide Drone technology to Pakistan. On this occasion, Quaid PML-N Mian Nawaz Sharif thanked the arrival of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and said that government should fulfill the expectations of masses. He said that supremacy of law and constitution should be established in the country and government should provide good governance to masses following the merit and justice. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif who was also present on the occasion said that fake cases have been registered against his family. Before this a meeting held between Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Mian Nawaz Sharif at breakfast table where Hussain Nawaz son of Mian Nawaz Sharif and Senior Member of PML-N Ishaq Dar was also present. The issues pertaining to current political situation, Charter of Democracy (CoD), repeal of 17th amendment from constitution, accountability bill, good governance, grievances of common men, foreign policy, contacts with US and NATO and resumption of Indo-Pak talks came under discussion during the meeting. PM Gilani said that he wanted to stick to the government's policy of reconciliation, predicting a good news regarding 17th amendment soon, sources told media. "I want to work jointly with PML-N for the supremacy of constitution and strength of democracy in Pakistan", PM said. During the meeting, Mian Nawaz Sharif urged PM Gilani that government should work sincerely to address the plights of common man. Government should soon proceed towards the restoration of transparent accountability system as decided in the Charter of Democracy (CoD), Nawaz demanded concrete actions against those who are found guilty of sabotaging law and constitution of Pakistan.
