ISLAMABAD - The National Finance Commission (NFC) implementation committee meeting would discuss much controversial and debated agricultural tax, General Sales Tax (GST) on services sector and provinces electricity arrears on Saturday.

Sources told TheNation that meeting was scheduled today (Tuesday), which has been deferred till Saturday on the request of Balochistan province. Advisor to Prime Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh would chair the meeting that would discuss the issue of controversial agricultural tax and also the property tax. These two taxes, agricultural and property tax are already imposed in the provinces, however these taxes are not being collected properly.

Sources further told that NFC meeting would also take up the issue of imposition of General Sales Tax (GST) on services sector and provinces arrears regarding electricity that went up to some Rs 200 billion. Sources said that meeting would evolve a strategy so provinces could make budget in surplus instead of deficit. 

Meanwhile, the provinces would also raised some reservations regarding NFC funds, as biggest province of the country Punjab was not satisfy with delayed release of funds under NFC.
