LAHORE – The Punjab University’s Department of Gender Studies has started a series of activities regarding celebration on the International Women’s Day. On Tuesday, the department organised a seminar titled “Family Disputes and Counseling”, in collaboration with the Tameer-e-Nau Foundation.

The speaker of the day was Maryam Suyhal. Dr Samar Fatima, from Gender Studies, and Dr Nauman, from Applied Psychology, were also present on the occasion. Maryam Suyhal highlighted the importance of counselling in resolving of family disputes.

She said: “The students could play a role as a counsellor by having appropriate training on counselling skills.” The first debate competition was organised on February 20 to kick off the celebrations that will be culminated on March 08, 2012 by conducting a walk. The topic of the competition was titled “Working Women vs House Wives: Who is playing better role in Family.”

Dr Zahid and Dr Khalid Ahmad were the guests on the occasion. Students from Fatima Jinnah College Chunaa Mandi, Department of Sociology, Institute of Communication Studies and Department of Gender Studies Punjab University participated in the competition. A student from the Department of Sociology secured 1st position and Sadia Nawaz from Gender Studies got 2nd prize.

Results: The Punjab University’s Examinations Department has declared the results of M.Phil. Leading towards PhD in Statistics, (Semester System), Session 2008 and M.Phil. Leading towards PhD in Statistics, (Semester System), Session 2009.  Meanwhile, the Punjab University’s Examinations Department has issued the date sheet of 1st year B.Sc Nursing (4-Year Programme) Supplementary Examination, 2011 & Annual Examination, 2012 written and practical/oral examination to be held in March.
