LAHORE – A teenaged boy was killed while his 19-year-old brother was pulled out alive after they fell into the Batapur stretch of the City Canal on Tuesday.

The residents of Mahmood Booti, Jabar, 19 and Amir, 17, were walking alongside the canal’s bank when all of a sudden Jabar slipped and fell into the canal.

Amir jumped into the water to save his brother, but he, too, disappeared into water. Some locals also jumped into the canal to save the brothers. Later the Rescue (1122) divers also reached the spot and, along with the locals, rescued one boy. However, they could not recover Amir’s body and suspended the operation late on night due to darkness.

3 friends injured in hit-and-run accident: Three young friends were wounded seriously when a rashly-driven truck hit their motorcycle in the Lower Mall area, police said on Tuesday.

The police said the boys, later identified as Abdullah, Dawood and Naeem, were on their way to the home of one of them when the truck hit them near district courts. They were rushed to a local hospital.

The driver managed to flee the crime scene along with his vehicle. The police were investigating.
