LAHORE – Twenty-two schoolchildren and a teacher sustained burns on Thursday when a fire erupted in the classroom of Dar-e-Arkam School in Shahdara. According to Rescue 1122, the fire broke out as the teacher put a match to gas heater, burning her and 22 children. The injured were rushed to the Mayo Hospital.
According to doctors, the injured are out of danger. They had 10-20 percent burns, the docs added.
The injured were named as Reen d/o Shahid, Hooria d/o Tanveer, Safa d/o Shahid, Khadija d/o Nasir, Rubab d/o Imran, Imran s/o Liaqat, Laraib d/o Tanveer, Momina d/o Tahir, Zainab d/o Waheed, Zebi d/o Asif, Manahil d/o Rizwan, Fiza d/o Liaqat,Hannan Aslam s/o Adnan Aslam, Muhammad Umar s/o Shahid, Ali Shair s/o Nafees, Fateen s/o Shabbir, Usman s/o Mubbasir, Furqan s/o Akbar, Mujtaba s/o Tauqeer, Haram s/o Faisal, Hareem s/o Saim, Ashar s/o Kamran and their teacher Maryam. 
The school has been sealed and the Shahdra police booked the principal following the order of Lahore District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Mengal.
Talking notice of the tragedy, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif issued directives for best medical care to the injured.
According to a release issued here, President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed concerns over the fire incident in the school and called for a probe into the matter. He directed the authorities concerned to provide the best medical treatment to the injured children.
Killed: A father of six was shot dead on Thursday by his guests at North Cantt. The deceased was named as Asharf alias Bohla. The police said Ashraf had two wives and all lived together in a house. Police registered a case and sent the body to morgue for autopsy.
Separately, a 50-year-old man was killed after a car ran over him. The victim identified as Boota from Sialkot. Police said Boota was crossing a road near Thokar Niaz Baig when he had the accident that left him wounded critically. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, they said adding that futher investigation is on.
