KARACHI  - The speakers at a seminar here Thursday emphasized the use and promotion of mother languages being spoken in the country and that these should be declared as Pakistani languages instead of regional dialects.

This would not lessen the importance of the national language Urdu and lingua franca in the country, they said.

The seminar was organised by Nazrul Academy to mark the World Mother Language Day, said a release. The speakers included Mehfoozun Nabi Khan, Dr Zubair Rehman, Nazeer Ahmed Channa, Muhammad Siddique Baloch and Anwer Abbas. The speakers were unanimous that almost all the master piece classical literature work was produced in mother languages spoken and written in the world today.

The literary work done by rebel poet Qazi Nazrul Islam in Bangla language is the shining example of such an intellectual treasure in his mother tongue, he said.
