LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Friday issued notices to the Federal Government for reply in response of a petition challenging appointment of Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

Shehzad Rasool through his counsel submitted that Dr Syed Ismail Shah had been appointed as chairman PTA in violation of PTA Act. He submitted that chairman PTA could not be appointed without appointing the required numbers of members of PTA. He pointed out that the appointment was also against the directions of Supreme Court as it had instructed to appoint the heads of all semi-government organiSations through a competent commission.  He alleged that Dr Syed Ismail had been appointed on political grounds and the appointment had also affected adversely the goodwill of the authority. The petitioner requested the court issue directions to the respondents for removal of the Dr Syed Ismail as PTA chairman. Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard preliminary contentions and sought reply from the federal government by March 14.
