Federal Minister for Defence, Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has supported the early holding of Local Bodies elections in Punjab for ensuring the solution to public problems at local level.

He stated this while addressing the participants of an oath-taking ceremony of Tehsil Municipal Administration’s Ittefaq Labour Union held at Sialkot Fort. He said that local bodies were meant for political nurseries, adding that the early elections of the Local Bodies in Punjab were a political need and utmost demand of the people.

He said that he did not know when the LB polls would be held but it was the need of hour to hold local bodies elections. The federal minister added that representatives of local bodies could solve the problems of people like cleanliness, sewerage etc at grassroots level.

He admitted that Sialkot was getting developed but he expressed displeasure over the situation of cleanliness and sewerage system. He said that Solid Waste Management Company (SWMC) and TMA were working parallel but who were responsible to maintain the cleanliness of the city because the city was facing cleanliness and sewerage system problems.

He also expressed displeasure over the current miserable condition of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park and directed for maintenance of the park in a befitting manners. He congratulated the elected members of Ittefaq Labour Union and promised to solve their problems at the earliest.

RECOVERY: The Gepco teams recovered Rs56 billion as the monthly bills of electricity from the consumers during the current month. Gepco has also recovered arrears of Rs80 million from dozens of defaulters including several government departments during a special recovery campaign launched in Gujranwala Division’s all the six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts
