Islamabad - Chairman National Accountability Bureau Qamar Zaman Chaudhary on Saturday said that NAB is determined to eradicate corruption from the country with absolute professionalism, integrity and without fear or favour.

He said this during his visit to NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, says a press release issued here. The chairman said that NAB believes in zero-tolerance towards corruption and it is encouraging for NAB that for the first time anti-corruption has been made a part of development agenda in Pakistan in the context of governance. The Planning Commission of Pakistan has included a chapter devoted to issues of corruption in the 11th five year plan and we intend to work closely with Planning Commission to achieve the goals set in there.

He said during the last one year from Jan 2013 to December 2014, the NAB has recovered Rs 4 billion, received 19,816 complaints, authorised 767 inquiries, and converted 276 cases into investigations, while 152 references were filed in the accountability courts. The figures of complaints, inquiries and investigations are almost double as compared to the same period of October 2012 to September 2013 with 10,414 complaints, 276 inquiries, 84 investigations and 138 references respectively.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered Rs 262 billion from 1999, since its inception, to date and deposited the money in national exchequer. The NAB received 270,675 complaints, authorised 5,872 inquiries, converted 2,908 cases into investigations and filed 2,159 references in different accountability courts throughout the country.

The comparative figures for the latest years are indicative of the hard work being put in by all ranks of NAB staff in an atmosphere of renewed energy and dynamism, where fight against corruption is being taken as a national duty. 

The chairman NAB appreciated the work done by NAB KP under the supervision of DG NAB KP in eradication of corruption and corrupt practices. 

The chairman NAB also inaugurated a tree plantation campaign by planting a tree in the premises of NAB KP along with DG and senior officers of NAB KP.
