LAHORE – The provincial police chief on Saturday constituted a high-level committee for the recovery of two foreigners allegedly kidnapped by Taliban from near Multan on Friday. The 24-year-old Giovanni, an Italian, and 65-year-old Bernd, of Germany, were returning from Kot Addu after visiting a flood-hit area.

IG Javed Iqbal, who had dashed into Multan with Home Secretary Shahid Khan, also spent a busy day on Saturday in the Sountern Punjab city discussing various aspects of the incident.

The committee is headed by Mulatn SSP (Operations) Azhar Ikram, SP Counter Terrorism Department Karamatullah Malik, SP Investigation Liaqat Cheema, SP Cantonment Dr. Asif Shahzad and SP Special Branch Qayyum Qaiserani.

According to police spokesperson Mrs. Nabeela Ghazanfar, the IG presided over another high-level meeting held at the office of the RPO.

He discussed with his team the strategy for the immediate recovery of the foreign abductees. The IGP also directed them to give top priority in this matter.
