JHANG - At least eight people were killed and four others wounded in separate incidents of violence and mishaps in Jhang on Saturday.

In the first incident, one Ahmed Nawaz, a resident of Balloo Shahbal, was shot dead by unidentified people at his house. Sadar police have registered a case under Section 302 of the PPC.

Separately, one Zafar Iqbal, a student of the Vocational College Shorkot, was killed when he was hit by a speeding van. He was on his way to the college. After the incident, scores of students staged a protest, blocking Jhang-Shorkot Road for four hours. The accused driver has been arrested by the police. In another incident, 45-year-old Muhammad Khan, a resident of Shabirabad, was shot dead by unidentified attackers over unknown reasons. Sadar police have registered a case and are investigating.

Separately, Mochiwala police recovered sack-packed body of a 30-year-old man from a field.

The victim was identified as a resident of Chak 454. The police have registered a case against unidentified killers and are investigating. Separately, two people, Wali Muhammad and Abdul Nabi, of Mauza Ludhian died due to suffocation in the limits of the Bhowana Police Station.

They had turned on a gas heater but did not switch it off when they went to sleep. As gas accumulated, they both died due to suffocation. Meanwhile, one Muhammad Ansar, a truck driver, was killed by one Hadayatullah, an owner of a hotel. Ansar stopped by the Masha Allah Lucky Marwat Hotel on Jhang-Shorkot Road. He tried to stop the owner from pouring dirty water into clean drinking water. Upon this, Hadayatullah became furious and killed the driver.

Separately, Fazlur Rehman, a senior advocate and member of the Jhang Bar Association, received serious bullet injuries. He was attacked on his way to the district court by one of his relatives, namely Safdar Javid Joyia. The lawyer was admitted to the DHQ on Friday and was stated to be out of danger. The bar lodged a protest and observed complete strike. Jhang Kotwali police have registered a case and are investigating.
