LAHORE – Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan has launched a new programme to explore avenues of mutual cooperation for establishing linkages among students and Industries.
According to a press release issued here on Saturday, Director General Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta and Director Centre of Law and Policy (CLP) University of Management and Technology, Lahore Syed Imadud Din Asad signed on a Record of Agreement (RoA) on behalf of their organizations at University Campus here.
A panel discussion to create awareness regarding concepts of intellectual property was also held on the occasion. IP experts, Law Graduates, Harvard Alumni, faculty members and students participated in the discussion.
Participants of the ceremony highlighted IP related issues and stressed on adopting appropriate measures to curb counterfeiting and piracy besides giving legal protection to the genuine brand owners.
The DG IPO said the young researchers had great potential of creativity and they had introduced remarkable innovations which needed to be registered to protect their IP rights.
He said patents and innovations of young talented researchers would be introduced to the relevant industrial sector which would not only help to encourage researchers but also provide fresh and innovated ideas to the manufacturers. Bhutta said the IPO was committed to formulate policies related to standards and to regulate the process of turning a patent into a standard.
, adding that enterprises and industry organizations should be supported for active participation in formulation of international standards.
Elaborating the IPO-Pakistan’s strategy for improvement in Research and Development in universities, he said that designated officials would help for IP rights registration, Technology Management offices (TOMs) and Technology Incubation Centres (TICs) would coordinate for Research Innovation and protection of IP assets.
He said these centres extended help for establishing active university industry linkages through Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Director CLP Syed Imadud Din Asad termed the agreement between the university and the IPO as landmark for protection of IP rights and said that students would get benefit from this facility.
