LAHORE - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled the first Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Women Twenty20 Challenge Trophy here at the board’s headquarters on Saturday.

The captains of the all participating teams of the event were present on the trophy revealing ceremony. Pakistan women team captain Sana Mir is leading ZTBL while Mariam Hassan Shah, Kainat Imtiaz, Salma Faiz, Sana Gulzar and Nahida Bibi named the captains of Federal, Sindh, KP, Punjab and Balochistan respectively.

Talking to the reporters on the occasion, Sana Mir said that it was a great opportunity for young girls to exhibit their prowess to grab place in the national team.

“The prestigious tournament will be an opportunity for us to prepare Pakistan team for the T20 Women World Cup,” she said.

Another skipper of the team said: “The event will provide a chance to young girls to recognise their talent as they can get good exposure in this national event and can also boost their morale by playing against national team players.”

Another captain of the team stated: “It is the dire need of the hour to work on the grass-root level to boost women cricket because girls have less cricketing age so they must be groomed and given chance so that they may replace the national players.”

The prestigious national event will roll into action today (Sunday) with the opening match between Kinnaird College and Federal team.
