RAHIMYAR KHAN/OKARA/FAISALABAD
Two persons were killed and three others injured when opponents traded fire here on Tuesday. According to the police, a shootout took place between members of two rival groups in Pakka Larra area.
The fire exchange continued for more than half an hour and both sides used heavy automated weapons against each other. Resultantly two persons were killed in the cross-fire and three others sustained wounds.
On information heavy contingent of police reached the scene and brought the situation under control.
The police said that a case has been registered against both the rival groups.
In Okara a youth was killed and his brother injured over a monetary dispute on Tuesday. As per details, Muhammad Amin, a resident of Metha Bhatti, an accounts clerk in DPO Okara office, had a monetary dispute with his cousins. He along with his brother was sitting in the chamber of a lawyer when his cousins including Ashfaq, Shahbaz, Mushtaq and others opened fire on them. Resultantly, Amin died on the spot while his brother Muhammad Iqbal sustained bullet injuries.
The injured was shifted to DHQ hospital. The City Police have registered a case against the accused.
Meanwhile, in Faisalabad, the police claimed to have killed a proclaimed offender in a shootout on Tuesday. A police spokesman said that Basharat Iqbal alias Phalli, a resident of Chak 108/JB was wanted by the police in eight murder and two abduction for ransom cases. On a tip-off the Kotwali Police raided his hideout in Chak 108 to arrest the accused but he started indiscriminate firing on the police personnel. Police also retaliated and killed him while his accomplices managed to escape from the scene.
Police also recovered a Kalashnikov, four magazines and 30 bullets from his possession.
