KARACHI  - A local leader of MQM was killed while his brother and security guard wounded in a low-intensity bomb attack at University Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Tuesday.

According to witnesses, at least two motorcyclists threw explosive material at the victim’s car near NED University Road and escaped from the scene.

As a result, the Shia leader namely Wajahat Hussain Naqvi was killed on the spot while his brother and security guard sustained serious wounds. The driver of the victim shifted the victims to the nearest private hospital. Police officials said the victim was going somewhere when two motorcyclists targeted them with grenade.

The victim was the chairman of Shia Maatmi Anjuman-e-Makhdooma Konain and also a branch manager of a private bank. Sources claimed that Wajahat submitted his nomination papers to contest the upcoming Local Government elections on the ticket of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM). Police have so far been to ascertain the motive behind the attack. It is pertinent to mention here that Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen leader Maulana Deedar Ali Jalbani and his guard were killed at the same place a couple of days ago. Meanwhile, another Shia youth namely Qalab-e-Abbas, 18, was shot dead in Rizvia Society, Nazimabad in a targeted attack. Police shifted the victim’s body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.
