PCB reinitiates Pakistan Super League

Najam Sethi to head all the board committees

LAHORE - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Wednesday decided to reinitiate the Pakistan Super League (PSL) project and formed a bid committee to oversee the award of PSL rights.
It was approved in the 33rd meeting of the PCB’s Board of Governors (BoG)chaired by PCB chairman Shaharyar M Khan and attended by its members ex-PCB chairman Najam Sethi, Shakil Sheikh (Islamabad), Gul Zada (Peshawar), Prof Ejaz Faruqi (Karachi), Iqbal Qasim (NBP), Yousuf Nasim Khokhar (Wapda) and M Ijaz Chaudhry (federal secretary IPC), PCB COO Subhan Ahmad, CFO Badar M Khan and Salman Naseer (BoG secretary) while Amjad Latif (SNGPL) could not attend owing to a federal government call for a meeting in Islamabad, while Mansoor Masood Khan (UBL) was abroad owing to professional commitments.
It is pertinent to mention here that Najam Sethi, who is nominated by the PCB for high-level ICC president slot, is going to head all the committees formed during the BoG meeting.
The bid committee for the PSL comprises Najam Sethi as chairman and Subhan Ahmad, Badar M Khan, Salman Naseer and Zaki Rahman as members and Shoaib Naveed secretary.
At the outset, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the innocent children who lost their lives in the unfortunate terror incident in Peshawar’s Army Public School. The meeting dealt with a vast and varied agenda and arrived at various decisions after detailed deliberation here at National Cricket Academy (NCA).
The PCB chief briefed the BoG in some detail on the positive impact of Kenyan team’s visit in terms of dispelling any security concerns of other key cricket playing nations and furthered the cause of encouraging tours of other sub-national and national teams from various countries. Members were also briefed on the selection process of the ICC World Cup 2015 national squad. Members endorsed the induction of Naveed Akram Cheema as team manager.
Updates were also provided on PCB’s sale of international media rights, the tender advertisement of which has already been circulated in national and international newspapers and has received an enthusiastic response. It was decided that the annual general meeting of the board would be convened in April 2015.
It was also agreed that a fully developed strategic long term plan encompassing the way forward for PCB in term of the guidelines specified by the board be presented at the next meeting of the BoG. The BoG also examined the draft model constitutions of clubs and district cricket associations and constituted a committee to finalise the same and present recommendations before the BoG at its next meetings for approval. The committee comprises Najam Sethi as chairman, Shakil Shaikh, Ejaz Farooqi, Ahmad Shahzad Rana, Saqib Irfan and Salman Naseer as members.
The board constituted a media committee to formulate a media policy comprising Najam Sethi as chairman, Shakil Shaikh, Gul Zada, Subhan Ahmad and Agha Akbar as members. The BoG also approved the annual audited accounts 2013-14 and congratulated the board on increased profitability. Other than chairman Shaharyar Khan, the following members attended the special BoG meeting.
