Boy dies in firing over land dispute

ATTOCK -  A teenage boy was killed in a cross fire between two groups over a land dispute in Bagh Wakelaan area in the limits of Hassanabdal Police Station on Sunday.

Mannan Khan and Nasreen Bibi, widow of Mohammad Nawaz, had a dispute over a piece of 16-marla land. 

The two groups were in litigation for a long period of time.

On Sunday, Nasreen Bibi along with her sons, and relatives armed with different weapons, arrived at the disputed piece of land and tried to remove the gate and demolish the wall surrounding the land.

At this a group of men led by Mannan Khan started firing in the air.

The firing that followed from the other group resulted in the death of Hammad Khan, 18, son of Mannan Khan.

Hammad who received bullet injuries in the incident, died on the way to hospital.

Hassanabdal Police have registered a case and started investigation.

Last Friday, Nasreen Bibi staged a protest by staging a sit-in in the middle of the GT Road near Hassanabdal bus stand, over ‘occupation’ of her land.

The Sub-divisional Police Officer DSP Mohammad Shafeeq along with officials of the National Highways and Motorway Police reached the spot and assured Nasreen of justice after resultantly the woman concluded her protest.

Police sources, while quoting family members, said that the deceased was the only son of his parents.
