Fakhir group wins top DBA slots

Rivals refuse to accept results

KASUR-Sardar Fakhir Ali won the seat of president of District Bar Association (DBA) by defeating Mirza Naseemul Hassan with the margin of 60 votes in annual bar elections held on Sunday.
After the election results, Mirza group which was being supported by the ruling PML-N and the PPP suspected vote rigging and demanded recounting of votes.
Upon this, votes were recounted for at least three times and the final decision was given in favour of Sardar Fakhir. The winner group's joy knew no bounds. They danced and shouted slogans.
In the meanwhile, Naseemul Hassan surprisingly refused to accept the election results, declaring the election was rigged. Earlier, he had congratulated Sardar Fakhir on his victory and had gone home. But later on, he returned allegedly at the instigation of a former DBA president. He accused the rival group of vote rigging in the election.
According to election results, Mehmood Abdullah of Fakhir group had been elected as DBA vice president, Fahad Akram as general secretary, Sajid Mehmood as joint secretary and Sufyan Mehr as auditor.
Now, the issue has been referred to Punjab Bar Council. It would decide whether Sardar Fakhir would occupy the seat of DBA president or may order re-election.
