Japanese calendars exhibition to continue till 27th

Rawalpindi - Annual Japanese calendars exhibition 2018 will continue till January 27. The exhibition has been organised by Embassy of Japan in collaboration with Rawalpindi Arts Council at the RAC Gallery. The exhibition is an annual feature of cultural activities organised by the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan. This year, around 114 calendars have been put on display with cooperation of Japan Calendars Association, Tokyo and various other Japanese companies. The citizens can visit the exhibition from 9 am to 4 pm.

The calendars feature various themes related to Japanese traditional and contemporary arts, sports, automobiles, nature, cultural heritage and architecture. The exhibition not only gives a picture of the socio-cultural development of Japan spread over centuries, but also exhibits aesthetic features of Japanese printing technology.

Ambassador of Japan Takashi Kurai said that the calendars represented beauty as well as true life image of Japan. The purpose of the exhibition is to share various aspects of Japanese culture and lifestyle with the people of Pakistan, he added. He said that it was a common practice in Japan to send calendars to exchange New Year greetings, adding that the calendars would also be given to the visitors as gift through lucky draw.

Most of the calendars have been produced by private Japanese companies and majority of them are printed on recycled papers which is an example of Japan’s efforts to be eco-friendly. Former Director RAC Naheed Manzoor said that it was a good event to promote people-to-people contact and information about development of different sectors in Japan. Director RAC Waqar Ahmed said that cultural exchange programme prove helpful for artists as well as general public.
